Formula One – RIP 2010

It’s over. The Formula One Teams’ Association has announced they’re planning on starting their own racing series and separating ties with FIA and Formula One.

Congratulations FIA, Bernie Ecclestone, Max Mosley and the rest of the clowns running Formula One. You’ve managed to destroy one of the most storied sports franchises in the world with your greed and uncompromising dicktatorshiplike manner in which you run Formula One. Fuck you.

Lewis Hamilton doesn’t know if he ruined Kimi Raikkonen’s race

The Canadian Formula One Grand Prix was interesting to say the least. Lewis Hamilton decides to become color blind approaching a red light at the pit exit and rams Kimi Raikkonen’s car taking both of them out of the race.

Says Lewis Hamilton after the race:

I apologise to Kimi if I ruined his race.

Way to go spinmeister! There are no ifs about it. He did ruin Kimi’s race.

Good luck in Magny Cours. I hope one of those backmarkers you’re starting with pushes you around a little.

Stepneygate 101

Wired has published an excellent article about the Stepnegate Formula One spy scandal from last summer. The article is written by writer Mark Seal.

The article describes what transpired, why Nigel Stepney did it, how he was caught, and many reactions from stakeholders. It’s an excellent and quite in depth look into one of the most bizarre and, yes, interesting events to ever have happened to Formula One.

Heikki Kovalainen signs a contract with McLaren

Finnish Formula One pilot Heikki Kovalainen has signed a long-term contract with the McLaren Formula One team to replace Fernando Alonso.

With Kimi Räikkönen a World Champion at Ferrari and Heikki at McLaren the 2008 Formula One season is looking to be one hell of an exciting one for Finns!

Suomi voittoon!

Kimi Räikkönen – Formula One World Champion 2007

Kimi Räikkönen today became the third Finn to win a Formula One World Championship. The other two are Keke Rosberg (1982), and two-time champion Mika Häkkinen (1998, 1999).

The Kimster won the championship despite seemingly unsurmountable obstacles having been 7 points behind the championship leader Lewis Hamilton, and 3 points behind Fernando Alonso. The Iceman had 100 points, Fernando Alonso 103 points and Lewis Hamilton 107 points before the final race. Not only that, but he started 3rd on the starting grid behind Lewis Hamilton and in front of Fernando Alonso.

In the race results Kimi was first gaining 10 points, Alonso third gaining 6 points, and Hamilton 7th gaining 2 points.

The final championship points are:

Kimi: 110 points
Hamilton: 109 points
Alonso: 109 points

Kimi is the World Champion by 1 point!

Finally his bad luck is gone. He’s been constantly the fastest racer on the track for the past 3 years, but reliability problems with his cars has kept him from winning the world championship until now.

Congratulations Kimi!

Breaking News: McLaren Formula One team stripped of its 2007 points. Driver points spared.

The ongoing espionage scandal in Formula One reached a conclusion today when FIA made a decision to disqualify the McLaren Formula One team from the competition for the remainder of the 2007 season as well as the whole 2008 season for stealing and using information from the Ferrari team.

This is incredible. The McLaren drivers, Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton, are currently one and two in the season standings and one of them was bound to win the 2007 championship.

This has to be one of the biggest scandals to hit ANY sport in history.

And there seems to be more coming as rumors are circulating that the Renault F1 team had the same information and also used it in their cars.

Update: BBC is now reporting that instead of disqualification, the McLaren F1 team is going to lose its 2007 points and be hit with a $100M fine. The McLaren drivers will retain their points, and the 2008 car is subject to a special inspection before it’s allowed to participate in the 2008 season.

You can’t beat a Finn in sauna

Check out a brilliant Mercedez Benz TV commercial featuring Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso competing against each other on and off the track.

They’re, however, playing second fiddle to Mika Hakkinen where it really counts…in the sauna.

Kimi Räikkönen going to Ferrari

Formula 1 Championship, here we come!

Kimi’s been robbed of one championship already by McLaren’s reliability problems. Forza Ferrari!
